Tribute to Jeff Larson

Posted by:

The Nielsen’s Fly-In Lodge family lost a great friend last Friday.  Long time fishing buddy and guest Jeff Larson from Rockford IL passed away last Friday morning.  Unfortunately, he didn’t get to make his annual fishing trip up here on Rowan Lake.  He and his fishing buddy Nic were scheduled to be our last group in camp this season.

We will always remember Jeff for all the wonderful memories and for the man who placed family and friendship foremost in his ...

Sept Fishing Report

Posted by:

What a ride!

First it’s 100 degrees, muggy and calm and then it’s dipping below freezing at night.  It’s what you expect in early September up here!

Fishing has been good after a spike in surface temps the last part of August they are now back down to 66-67 degrees.  The late August heat burn the tops of a lot of the cabbage beds, but the deeper part of the weeds are still green.

Fishing has been good and they are showing up ...

The middle of August has brought stable weather and cool temps with high’s in the 7o’s.  Rowan Lake surface temps are down to 66-68 degrees.  Way lower than the past two summers where we were pushing low 80’s for surface temps this time in August.  We’ve had a full camp now for weeks and the fishing has been excellent.  Most groups are targeting muskies.  This past week lot’s of BIG fish have been showing up and have cooperating!   Both ...

Early August Report

Posted by:

Water temps have dropped to 66 degrees F all over the lake.  Finally, nice stable weather is coming to set in for a while.  Had 25 fish follow yesterday on glide baits and buck tails.  Mostly all smaller fish.  Put only one in the net.   I’m back after them today with sunny and calm and a nice break from the 30 mph winds recently!

Always calm waters to you all and the best of luck out there!

Thanks for checking in…Later ...

Posted by:

A guy in camp who is here by him self in his 70’s caught 73 smallmouth today on his fly rod.  “The best day of bass fishing in his life”, he said. That’s petty cool stuff!

The Muskie Opener, morning, was great, 11 fish caught before lunch.  Paul Weston got a 49″er, Rich Connoy a 48″ and 49″er, Don got 3 muskies, 42″, 43″ and 47″, also some big ones lost too.
Great Rowan opener 38 muskies caught a very good shallow water bite ...
