Sept Fishing Report

Posted by:

What a ride!

First it’s 100 degrees, muggy and calm and then it’s dipping below freezing at night.  It’s what you expect in early September up here!

Fishing has been good after a spike in surface temps the last part of August they are now back down to 66-67 degrees.  The late August heat burn the tops of a lot of the cabbage beds, but the deeper part of the weeds are still green.

Fishing has been good and they are showing up in shallower water.  2013 has been a fantastic year of fishing.  The late ice out and spring made the lake trout bite one of the best ever.  Our bass fishing has been fantastic and this has been the top year for us for the numbers of muskies caught and released.

This years has been a bit challenging on equipment.  We’ve had to replace a few boat motors and we recently replaced our Onan generator.  A helicopter dropped the new generator inches outside the generator house and flew the old one out yesterday.

We are winding down the 2013 fishing season as cabins are being winterized and boats stored for the winter.

On a sad note, we lost a wonderful fishing friend who was suppose to be in camp right now.  Our longtime fishing buddy Jeff Larson died suddenly last Friday morning.  We are all missing Jeff here in camp and we’ll be making a few runs out to a special place named after Jeff called “Larson’s Reef” before we close up for the season.  We are so lucky to have shared time on the water with Jeff and all the great memories Jeff brought to Rowan Lake.  RIP my friend.
