Water temps here in the Canadian shield country are rising and we are at 57 degree now up from 52 degrees the other day. We’ve been seeing some real giant muskies in the shallows. It’s so much fun to see them again. They are not pairing up yet, but they are just feeling the warmth and sunning themselves. The spawn should peak here shortly. The smallmouth are on the reefs and we are catching small northerns and lake trout with out moving the boat. We’ve been just casting lipless crank baits and rattle traps with a lot of success. We had a guest the other day catch a 39 1/2 inch laker that I’m guessing was 25-30 lbs. What a great fish..he was very excited. This spring has some of the best lake trout fishing that I can remember.
I think the Muskie opener next weekend we be a great one with this warm stable weather coming up. We’ve had our share of rain recently and the lake level is up significantly just like it is on LOTW and Rainy. I just love this time of year!
More reports and fish pics coming soon!
