Finally a stretch of stable weather is making for some great fishing right now.
Muskie fisherman are starting to find more active fish. Water temps right now are in that 73-75 degree range and the weed growth on the eastern basin of Rowan Lake is awesome. Out west the weeds are slightly behind in growth due to our late spring.
Most muskies sighted are coming out of the deep weed beds and on the weed edges of the shallow bays. An occasional fish is showing up off rocks but right now it appears they are relating to the weeds the most. A lot of nice fish are showing up and that’s going to make for some interesting days coming up. The best muskie fishing is yet to come and mid August is the time things really ramp up! Bucktails, spinner baits and surface lures have been productive. Glide and swim baits have been working as well.
Congratulations to all our recent guests who have CPR’d muskies the past couple of weeks!
Walleyes are still easily catchable in our portage lakes. A father-son team recently limited out on walleyes using leeches and Lindy Rigs. Plenty of bass can be found in those areas as well.
Speaking of bass…the smallmouth bass are absolutely insane right now. Folks who are just targeting the bass are having a blast catching huge number of fish right now. Rowan is truly a bass haven with some trophy bass being caught.
Lake trout are still being caught at depths of 85 feet using down rigging gear.
Kris is out of camp right now and will be back next week!
